By now I am sure you have all heard that singer Chris Brown, 19 years of age, was arrested and charged with making terrorist threats.  While the victim of domestic violence is supposed to remain anonymous, it has been leaked that his girlfriend Rihanna was the alleged victim.  The LA District Attorney’s office has sent the case back to the police for further investigation.

If the attack is true, it is sad that someone so young, with everything going for him, chose to go down this reckless path.  One can only hope that this young man gets the help he needs to move forward with his life in a positive manner.  If this is true, it is also sad that a young woman was injured by someone she loves.  Domestic violence is nothing new, but when we hear about it with people so young and with their lives ahead of them, we have to wonder and worry about all of our young people today.  As parents, we all worry about our children and hope that the partners they choose are not abusive to them.  Any victim of abuse needs to know it is not their fault, they did nothing wrong and they did nothing to deserve this and that they need to step forward and stop the abuse.

Anyone can be a victim of domestic violence and there is no shame in coming forward.  If we can learn anything from this alleged incident, it is that domestic violence happens to even those in the public eye.

If you are a victim of domestic violence or know someone who is, please know that you are not alone.  There are many safe houses available to you.  You do not have to accept the abuse.  You do not deserve the abuse and there are people who will help you.  For more information on what you can do to help someone who is being abused, or you suspect is being abused, or if you are being abused, please contact the Law Office of Zilda S. McCausland at 707-578-9375 for a confidential appointment to discuss the options available.
